NYS Governor Cuomo Announces Launch of New ID Verification Tool to Fight Unemployment Fraud.

We know that many of you have been receiving unemployment claims for employees that are currently working for you.

Please read the attached release: NYS Governor Cuomo Announces Launch of New ID Verification Tool to Fight Unemployment Fraud.

As we noted last year, this has been an issue across the entire Country with cases appearing to spike in New York lately.  As a result the Governor of NY launched a new identity verification tool, ID.me, to fight unemployment benefit fraud and help New Yorkers with bona fide claims to verify their identities and receive benefits faster.

Anyone who receives a monetary determination letter from the Department of Labor but did not apply for unemployment benefits should immediately file a report at on.ny.gov/uifraud. Those who file reports with the Department of Labor online will not be required to take any further steps and will automatically have any fraudulent charges cleared from their account.

New Yorkers who suspect they have been a victim of identity theft are encouraged to take steps to proactively protect themselves, including those listed at www.identitytheft.gov.
